Create a Tranquil Oasis in your Backyard Space

When it comes to your home, it’s important to pay attention to all of the various areas.  Your home is your own safe haven away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  This is the place where you go after a stressful day – or week – at the office.  Every part of your home, therefore, should speak to your senses and make relaxation come easy.  Your backyard is just as much a part of the home as your living room.  Let’s look at ways you can turn this area into a place of solace and tranquility.

If the area behind your home is not sprawling and green, don’t worry.  Outdoor space can be turned into a Zen garden even if it’s on the 14th floor overlooking the city!  Simple elements make an enormous difference regardless of size, shape or location.  With one single bench in outdoor space, you can be well on your way to the ideal garden.

The first thing to do before ever putting water features, plants or benches in outdoor spaces is to survey the area you have to work with.  Believe it or not, this may be easier for smaller yards rather than large sprawling areas!  With smaller spaces, you have only so many choices as to where everything will go.  While taking note of your space, check for those things that are important to you.  Do you have enough privacy?  Is there enough color?  Does anything need to be spruced up before adding elements like that bench for outdoor use?  Cleaning and de-cluttering may be your first step to a backyard you can really enjoy.

Unless you really like gardening in your free time, it’s best to create an outdoor space that is as low maintenance as possible.  Choose potted plants that require watering only every week or so.  Find evergreen plants that flower in the spring and summer so your backyard area changes throughout the year without you having to spend a day shopping for and planting colorful flowers.  Lemon trees are truly beautiful assets to any outdoor space, as they provide ample green foliage offset by bright yellow fruit that you can then turn into a delicious concoction.   Incorporate an elegant bench for outdoor designs, such as one made of strong wood that will bring warmth and comfort to your area. An outdoor bench should have a back and can be fitted with colorful cushions so you have a cozy place to sit back and relax at the end of the day.

Every space in your home, indoors and out, should provide you with comfort.  Your backyard oasis should give you a place to sit and relax and also to enjoy a snack or a full meal with family and friends.  Depending on the size of your space, your options for decorating are varied. Larger spaces can be fitted with an outdoor theater made up of white sheets and a few dowel rods!  Smaller spaces can be perfect for dining by candlelight to the soft sounds of trickling water.  By paying attention to those things that are most important to you, your backyard just might become your favorite room in the house!
